The fashion industry is by nature consumerist: seasonal trends and styles vary from year-to-year and the industry encourages people to buy and discard clothing without thought to quality, durability or environmental impact. But there are sectors of the fashion industry that are attempting to correct this unsustainable production.
Enter the ubiquitous PET bottle. Instead of going into landfill (or the ocean! :(), plastic from PET bottles is being made into a synthetic fabric that has qualities unlike other polyesters or synthetic material. Using plastic — a disaster for the environment, discarded after its single use — to create durable and quality fabric embraced by the fashion industry is a breakthrough towards environmental sustainability.
Merinomink™ are renowned for their quality Merino wool and possum fur knitwear. They create beautiful clothes and accessories for men, women and children. It would be great to one day see the fabric used in their range for men and children range, too
